Process for Evaluating Nominations for Library Employee Excellence Awards

This year, nominations are open for seven weeks from June 6, 2023 to July 28, 2023. All members of the Employee Recognition Committee automatically receive copies of each nomination, and the committee chair logs in all nominations as they arrive. Nominations will also be confirmed by a return email to the nominator.

Evaluation of nominees is done in two stages. Because of the large number of submissions each year, the initial evaluation is done by the Employee Recognition Committee (11 voting members) which puts forward a slate of nominations for evaluation by the library deans.

The committee’s review begins upon close of nominations. All committee members read the evaluation criteria for each award category (posted at https://committees.uflib.ufl.edu/committees/employee-recognition-committee/library-employee-excellence-awards/ ) and then review all nominations. For each award category, they make their own ranking of nominees (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc.) with “1” being the strongest.  Members then discuss all nominations, review the rankings, and determine a final ranking.

Committee members then create a slate of nominees to present to the deans, advancing three to four nominees in each award category, so that the deans have between 18 and 24 individual and group nominees to review. The deans can read and review any nomination but generally work from the slate sent forward by the committee. Decisions on awards are made by the deans.
